PANAJI

The 'Sagar Mitra' positions are part of the Central Government's scheme to develop local fisheries and entail a Rs 10,000 per month incentive and an additional Rs 5,000 for set targets.

The party had submitted a memorandum in which it pointed out that anyone from the neighbouring States could be eligible for the posts if there was no requirement for knowledge of local language.

Fisheries departments of other States had explicitly mentioned the pre-requisite of knowledge of the local language, it said.
