A nurse was seriously injured after being stabbed multiple times outside the Tuem Health Centre on Tuesday. The prime accused has been arrested in this connection.
According to reports, the accused, Gautam Devidas (25) from Korgao, had been reportedly stalking the victim for some time.
On Tuesday, Devidas had been waiting for her near the entrance of the Tuem Health Centre. As soon as the nurse finished her duty and left for home, Devidas is alleged to have stabbed her repeatedly with a sharp knife, inflicting serious injuries on her.
People at the health centre rushed to her aid, while they also caught the accused and later handed him over to the police, who took him into custody.
The seriously injured nurse was moved to the GMC hospital at Bambolim for further treatment. Police later arrested Devidas and are ascertaining the motive behind the attack.
The incident, which caused shock and commotion among staff and patients at the Tuem health centre, also prompted concerns about safety and security arrangements at the health centre.
Locals have stepped up demands for police presence at the Tuem health centre, especially since it is located near the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) area.
