Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa on Sunday made a fervent plea to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to work out a solution to the traffic chaos anticipated at the Goa Rajee junction after the completion of the Western bypass.
The MLA further demanded that the government take up the river Sal de-silting on topmost priority along the stretch passing through Nuvem, saying the plants and weeds have grown in the river, blocking the water flow and destroying paddy fields.
The MLA drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the playing of heavy traffic on the Eastern bypass and how it will create havoc in Nuvem if there’s no dedicated connection of this bypass with the Western bypass. Conceding there ought to be a dedicated route for the Eastern bypass traffic to join the Western bypass, the Chief Minister directed senior PWD officials to prepare a plan of action after consulting traffic officials and by taking the local MLA into confidence.
“I understand the apprehensions raised by the local MLA and the people how the Eastern bypass traffic will join the Western bypass near the traffic junction. I have directed the PWD officials to conduct a detailed study before the government works out a solution,” he said.
The Nuvem MLA also drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the traffic snarls at the Nuvem junction near the Church and the need to widen it to mitigate the hardships faced by the villagers. He also requested the Chief Minister to take up under the RDA the up-gradation of the Nuvem cemetery to meet the growing requirements.
The CM maintained that the government will take up the cemetery work provided an irrevocable NOC is issued by the local Church.
The MLA also took up with the CM the issue of Verna football grounds estimated to cost a whopping Rs 21 crore, with provision for stands and community hall. Upgradation of the Loutolim PHC to a 10-bedded hospital was also taken up with the CM.
