Nuvem residents stop mobile tower work at traffic junction

Nuvem residents stop mobile tower work at traffic junction

MARGAO

Residents of Cupem-Nuvem have stopped work on the installation of a mobile tower right at the Nuvem traffic junction.

The locals contended that the Nuvem traffic junction, the meeting point of the traffic from both the eastern bypass and traffic entering the city, has been an accident-prone zone with several mishaps reported in recent times.

When the residents spotted some digging activity right at the traffic junction, they questioned the workers present, only to realise that the work pertains to the installation of the mobile tower.

They immediately got the work stopped and brought the matter to the attention of the local panchayat member.

A resident Miguel Colaco informed that they are opposed to the tower coming up at the traffic junction, fearing the structure right on the road will cause accidents.

“This is an accident-prone zone. Former MLA Wilfred D’Sa had put up the traffic signals to regulate traffic and reduce the accidents at the spot,” he said, adding that the installation of the tower right on the road will only cause accidents.

He said when the matter was discussed with the local panchayat member, he informed that the panchayat has not granted any permission for the installation of a tower in the area.

The residents have asked the MLA Aleixo Sequeira and the panchayat to ensure the tower does not come up right at the traffic junction.
