MARGAO
Even as the Sewerage and Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa is bracing up to release house connections in the tourist village of Colva, residents on Sunday posed a simple question to Corporation officials “ how will they go about when connections pass through properties of adjoining owners.
The Corporation had to also face the ire of the members, who questioned them point blank on the restoration of the dug up roads, reminding them that the monsoons are fast approaching.
Corporation officials, who had made their presence felt at the Sunday gram sabha of Colva VP, had to face the ticklish question from the villagers, who expressed fears and concerns that people may not get the house connection if the owners do not issue the NOC for laying the line in their property.
In fact, members pointed out that while sewage connections for houses located along the roads may have no difficulty in taking the connections, they, however, demanded to know whether there’s any provision when it comes to houses which are far away from the main road, wherein the main underground sewerage line is laid.
They sought to know whether the NOC from the property owners would be mandatory for the release of the connection or whether the Corporation and the government will waive the NOC.
Left with no option and lacking clarity on the issue, the officials promised to get clarification from the higher-ups before returning to the gram sabha with the reply.
