The Raia gram sabha on Sunday made a strong pitch for the preservation and conservation of the village water bodies and water resources for posterity.
The gram sabha also congratulated Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and his Council of Ministers after assuming office last week.
The meeting also congratulated the Independent MLA from Curtorim Reginaldo Lourenco for being elected to the Legislative Assembly.
The resolution was tabled and supported by Anthony Barbosa, Manuel Barbosa and others as the gram sabha complimented the Chief Minister and his team for assuming office.
The gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Minguelina D’Souza also discussed the issue of tenants verification, saying the panchayat should go all out to get the tenants verified in the interest of the village and the people.
Former Sarpanch Xavier Fernandes made a strong pitch for the preservation and conservation of the village water bodies for posterity. Xavier pointed out that water is becoming scarce and underscored the need to protect the water bodies.
Members Xavier Fernandes and Anthony Barbosa demanded to know from the chair how the panchayat has utilized development funds, claiming that while some of the wards got huge funds, others were left high and dry.
