Officials carried out an inspection of a food processing unit at Mollem on Friday, following objections raised during an earlier attempt. Officials from the panchayat, along with department staff and police personnel, visited the unit to assess complaints by local residents about its operations, after completing the required formalities and obtaining necessary authorisation.

Although villagers were not allowed to enter the premises during the inspection, they pointed out from outside the specific areas they said needed to be checked. During the visit, officials examined various sections of the unit and noted the conditions. Sources said the inspection team also interacted with the management and reviewed the overall functioning of the facility.

Authorities said all observations from the inspection would be compiled into a report and submitted to the concerned departments for further action.

The inspection was conducted peacefully with cooperation from all sides.

Officials said appropriate steps would be taken based on the findings, and action would follow if any irregularities or violations are found.

Meanwhile, villagers from Mollem, who have been protesting against the company’s operations, reiterated their firm stand against the functioning of the waste treatment plant in the area. They said they would continue their protest until the unit is permanently shut down.
