Acting on directions from a Supreme Court order, the Goa government has constituted a high-level review committee to carry out periodic assessments of vulnerable areas, particularly regions considered prone to child trafficking.
The panel will be chaired by the Principal Secretary (Home) and include senior officials from the police, district administration, women and child welfare, and social welfare departments.
Among its members are the Director General of Police, Secretaries of the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare departments, District Magistrates of North, South and Kushavati, as well as the Superintendents of Police of the three districts.
The Director of Women and Child Development, the Director of Social Welfare, the Secretary of the Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and the Superintendent of Police of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), who will serve as Member Secretary, are also part of the committee.
The government said the committee has been entrusted with the task of carrying out a periodical review of the vulnerable areas, with particular focus on locations susceptible to child trafficking, and monitoring the progress of action taken in such cases.
The move is seen as part of a broader institutional mechanism for strengthening surveillance, coordination and response in cases involving the trafficking of children and other vulnerable persons.
