Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday sounded the poll bugle for the ensuing Zilla Panchayat elections scheduled for mid-March by calling upon the party leaders and workers to go for maximum seats to keep the party flag flying high in South district.
He also called on the workers to prepare for Municipal elections in the state scheduled later in 2020 and to start the ground work to keep the party in good stead in the next Assembly election, setting his eyes on additional seats of Fatorda, Sanguem, Porvorim, Siolim and Saligao and not to mention Margao and Curtorim.
Addressing party workers and leaders in the presence of state BJP President Vinay Tendulkar, Dy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar, Ministers Mauvin Godhino, Milind Naik, Filipe Neri Rodrigues, MLAs Clafacio Dias and Carlos Almeida at the South Goa BJP office after declaring Tulsidas Naik as the party’s new district president, the Chief Minister said ZP elections will be held on party lines on March 15. Saying the election code of conduct will come around January, he urged the party rank and file to work towards the victory of the party to retain its stranglehold over the North and South Goa Zilla Panchayats.
Saying there ought to be no complacency amongst the workers, he said the year 2020 will be important for the party since two important elections for the local self-government bodies, Zilla Panchayat and Municipalities are scheduled during the year.
Exuding confidence that the BJP will retain all the 27 seats in the coming
Assembly elections due in 2022, the Chief Minister, however, said that all out efforts should be made by the workers to ensure victory of the BJP in Fatorda, Siolim, Saligao, Porvorim and Sanguem. To a suggestion from the party workers, the Chief Minister also said the party should also try to get the seats of Margao, Curtorim, Navelim and Madkai in its kitty in the next elections.
Saying that the BJP had lost the South Goa Lok Sabha by a small margin in the elections held earlier this year, Sawant said the result would have been different if deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar and his 10-member team of MLAs had joined the party before the elections.
Saying that the BJP-led government is pursuing development across the state, the Chief Minister said that development has not come to a stop though the state is encountering several problems “We are not lagging in the development. Development is taking place in both North and South Goa. There are many projects which are in the final stage of commissioning”, he said.
Saying the government has vowed to keep the state clean given that the state is a tourist destination, the Chief Minister pointed out that unlike in the past, the government is spending huge amount of money on waste management in the state to keep the state clean.
Deaths at Sunburn: Will not rush to conclusion, says CM
MARGAO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the government will not rush to conclusion on the exact cause of death of the two youth at the Sunburn festival unless it receives the biopsy report from the Hyderabad-based forensic lab within the next eight days.
He also said the government will expedite the process to set up a full fledged forensic lab in the state of Goa so that the tests are being carried out right here in the state.
The Chief Minister said the investigating team has dispatched the samples to Hyderabad and the biopsy report is expected to come within eight days. “Till the time we receive the report from Hyderabad we cannot conclude the exact cause of death of the two youth.”
