Class C staff go on strike seeking new recruits

One day strike observed at Mapusa Post Office
MAPUSA
The Class C staff at Mapusa post office held one-day protest against the government and the postal officials as part of a nationwide strike called by the All India Postal Employees Union to demand their charter of demands.
The staff of Mapusa post office led by the All India Postal Employees Union Goa president Shiva Parab, secretary Y S Talualikar and treasurer Devidas Gawade protested opposite the Mapusa post office on Wednesday.
Speaking to reporters, Parab said the staff went on strike as the char
ter of demands of the Class C staff working in post offices are not yet fulfilled. "If our demands are not met, than the postal staff from all over the country will go on a token strike," warned Parab.
"Goa State needs 200 postal staff, but no new staff have been appointed since 2004, due to which the work load is increasing. One staff is doing the work of seven staff and this is a harassment," he added.
An official from Mapusa post office said there is a huge burden of work due to shortage of staff in the post office. "The staff do not get leave, which is their right. It has become difficult to sanction maternity leave to the women leave due to the work load," added the officer.
