One dead, another injured in bike accident at Verna

A fatal road accident was reported in the early hours of Sunday at Verna, resulting in the death of a pillion rider and serious injuries to the rider. The Verna police have registered a case against the rider for rash and negligent driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the state complaint filed by Head Constable Umesh Naik of Verna Police Station, the incident occurred on July 27 at around 1:50 am, when the accused, identified as Ritesh Bediya, a resident of Verna and native of Jharkhand, was riding an HP Deluxe motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner.

 Despite being under the influence of alcohol, he chose to ride the motorcycle along with a pillion rider, Mithun Kumar Rawani, also a resident of Verna and native of Jharkhand.

While proceeding from Margao towards Verna Church, the accused reportedly lost control of the vehicle near Union Bank, Verna. The motorcycle skidded and both riders fell. 

Mithun Kumar Rawani sustained critical injuries and succumbed on the spot, while Ritesh Bediya sustained grievous injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College, Bambolim.

Verna police have registered a case under Sections 281, 125(b), and 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. 

The investigation is being conducted by PSI Carey Fernandes under the supervision of PI Anand Shirodkar and guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
