MARGAO: A fogging operation at the Azad Nagar area of Margao to keep mosquitoes at bay on Monday ended in a fight between two groups, reportedly with iron rods and sharp weapons.
While Margao Municipal Vice-Chairperson Deepali Sawal claimed that the other group allegedly came with iron rods and swords, the rival group firmly denied the allegations and made a counter claim that the opponents were armed with koita. In fact, while Deepali claimed that two of her supporters, both brothers, were injured in the scuffle, the rival group made a counter claim that one of them was attacked with a koita.
Injured Vinod, who is believed to have sustained injuries to one of his legs, is convalescing at the Hospicio Hospital.
The incident is believed to have occurred when the MMC vice-Chairperson gave the fogging machine to one Suresh to undertake fogging operation at the Azad Nagar area. Deepali claimed that Suresh and his brother Vinod were questioned by the rival group as to how they undertook the operation without informing them. Heated arguments took place between the two sides before resulting in a free for all between the two sides.
Alla Baksh, heading the rival group, firmly denied that neither he nor anyone from his group had come with swords to attack the rival group. He pointed out that the fogging operation was started by the rival group without informing the residents, saying the group should have asked the residents to shut the doors before undertaking the operation.
The two groups were seen at the Margao police station till late Monday evening. The police said no FIR has been registered as the two sides were working to resolve the issue amicably.
