One killed in Borim accident
PONDA: A 51-year-old man from Curtorim, but a native of Aldona, died in an accident involving three vehicles at Awedem-Borim on Friday morning. A truck driver has been detained in this connection.
According to Ponda Police, the accident occurred at about 7.50 am, when Tonito Antonio Coelho, hailing from Aldona, was proceeding on his motorcycle (GA-02-D-3893) towards Ponda, while the truck (MH-42-B-9870) was travelling in the opposite side.
Eyewitnesses informed that the accident occurred at a turn at Awedem after a private bus suddenly made an unauthorized halt.
Coelho, who was behind the bus, brushed against the vehicle and fell on the road. The truck which was coming in the opposite direction ran over him killing him instantaneously.
Sources informed that the bus however, moved away from the accident site after the passenger boarded the vehicle. The locals demanded that police should also initiate action against the bus driver.
Ponda Police has detained the truck driver, Sushil Dhumall (36) from Satara, and is investigating the case.
