Warning of a possible second wave, Goa Medical College Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar on Thursday alerted Goans not to drop their guard against the dreaded Coronavirus even as he said that a recent marriage ceremony was the source of infection in at least 100 cases in the last few days.
"One marriage created 100 Covid cases in Goa," Dr Bandekar revealed even as he appealed to the general public to strictly adhere to the recommended standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent transmission.
The head of the State's premier medical institution said, if the daily case load begins to rise to 100-200 cases again, hospitals will again get flooded as before.
"Everybody has suffered for the past nine months on the economic front, educational front and health front. People must take precautions and help avoid a second wave," Bandekar said.
He warned that people have begun lowering their guard against the dreaded virus and taking it lightly.
"We are still not out of Covid. You can have marriages, you can have clusters but at least wear masks, keep physical distance and avoid crowding,” he said.
Meanwhile, the daily health bulletin recorded zero deaths due to the disease in the 24 hour period of Wednesday-Thursday. The health bulletin also said 95 more people tested positive among the 1500-odd tests done in the same 24-hour period even as 159 patients were declared recovered from the infection.
