Sarpanch of Cavelossim village panchayat Dixon Vaz on Sunday stated that the villagers have nabbed a suspect behind the fire to the cashew plantation in the village.
In a statement, the sarpanch stated that the villagers had to undergo sleepless nights for more than a month now as the village registered a number of fire incidents.
He said the suspect was handed over to the Colva police for further investigations.
“A number of fire incidents were reported in Cavelosim almost every week and we had even submitted a report to the Colva police that the fire is manmade and not accidental and to probe into the matter,” he said.
The sarpanch exuded confidence that the Colva police would conduct a detailed inquiry into the fire incidents. “We suspect some elements are out to defame the panchayat which is doing a lot of development in the village,” Dixon added.
