In Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim Panchayat, the panel of former sarpanch Martha Saldanha swept the election, winning all the nine wards. The noted loser was Ifa Saldanha, sister of late Matanhy Saldanha.
“My panel has made a clean sweep since people have faith in me despite the vilification campaign against me,” Martha told The Goan adding that people voted for development.
Asked what she meant by development, Martha said the losing candidates had raised various issues particularly hotels. The results showed that the people voted for hotels since they not only generate jobs but is a pollution-free industry.
When asked if she was the next sarpanch, Martha avoided giving a direct reply but added that she was in the reckoning for the post.
In the newly carved Quelossim Panchayat, former sarpanch Hilario Figueiredo and his supporters were decimated. The former sarpanch Figueiredo lost in both the wards he contested.
