With the fish trading operations resuming at the wholesale fish market on Tuesday after a month and half long ban on fish import into the State, market owner, the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) is maintaining a vigil on the traders whether they are complying with the condition that no vehicle should be parked inside the market after business hours.
In fact, while most of the insulated vehicles were found parked all along the wholesale fish market road, beginning from La Grace hotel, a couple of vehicles were spotted by the SGPDA officials inside the market well beyond 10 pm.
Taking cognizance of the violation of the condition on ban on vehicular parking after business hours, SGPDA official Paul Gomes has dispatched a message to the wholesale fish market association about the violation of the NOC by a couple of traders by parking their vehicles inside the market. “I will convey the violation on the parking condition to the SGPDA Member Secretary Ashok Kumar for necessary action,” Paul told The Goan.
The PDA official also pointed out that the wholesalers have also undertaken the job of soling the market surface without taking the PDA permission.
Incidentally, the wholesale fish market road, right from La Grace hotel to the Seraulim culvert has come in handy for the wholesale fish traders to park their insulated vehicles as the PDA has banned the parking of vehicles inside the market after 10 am.
While issuing the NOC, the PDA had made it very clear to the wholesale fish traders that no vehicle will be allowed in the wholesale fish market after 10 am. The decision was apparently taken given reports that insulated vehicles parked inside the market were storing unsold fish, only to offer the fish for sale the next day.
