VASCO
Many Vascokars on Monday were in for a big surprise to know that a former minister would be asking money from people, especially on social media.
Many people from in and around Mormugao Taluka and even abroad started receiving messages from the Instagram account of former minister and NCP State President Jose Philip D’Souza seeking financial help.
The fact that D’Souza’s Instagram account was hacked came to light after NCP General Secretary Pritam Naik got a message on his social media handle that D’Souza urgently needed financial help of Rs 20,000.
When contacted, D’Souza said he had got calls from many people in and around Mormugao Taluka and also from some people from the United Kingdom.
“I got calls enquiring from people as to why I needed financial help and if everything was okay. I was not sure of why people had been calling me suddenly to check on me till the time I got a call from Naik,” said D’Souza.
“I then called back and told people that my Instagram account had been hacked and appealed to not to fall prey to the messages even though it was coming from my social media handle. One friend even transferred Rs 30,000 to the hacker’s account...I have filed a police complaint in this matter,” said D’Souza.
