The State government has allocated a major share of Rs 948.83 crore out of the total financial provision of Rs 1,226.10 crore proposed for the Home Department.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, while presenting the Budget 2024-25 revealed some upcoming projects in the department starting with the ‘e-FIR’ service. “The online FIR service will be soon launched for the convenience of the general public. We also propose to strengthen the cyber cell in the police department,” he stated.
New police stations
In addition to this, the CM informed the House that construction of the new Police Headquarters building, Maina-Curtorim Police Station, Sanguem Police Station, Fatorda Police Station, and the Coastal Security Police Station at Talpona will begin this year. A financial provision of Rs 32.99 crore has been allocated for this purpose.
Besides, construction of a few B-type and C-type quarters at Arlem in Fatorda, Police Quarters at Altinho and at Maina Curtorim will begin this year, for which Rs 50 crore of Central Assistance has been provided.
The Home Guard and Civil Defence Department has been allocated Rs 44.92 crore. In one of its initiatives to reduce the number of road accidents in the State, CM said that the home guards will be enlisted as road safety warriors and deployed at various important locations.
Other allocations
* Budgetary provision for fire and emergency services is Rs 130.98 crore
* To strengthen the disaster response force, new fire stations at Bicholim, Valpoi and Vasco will be completed this year at a total cost of Rs 26.48 crore
* New fire stations in Pernem and Canacona talukas to be established
* Latest fire fighting equipment worth Rs 28 crore will also be provided
* Proposal to install rooftop solar panels at the Central Prison Colvale, through Goa Energy Development Agency at a cost of about Rs1 crore
* Provision of Rs 11 crore for the Vigilance Department
