Call it teething problems or just bad implementation. The government’s decision to start online registration of sale deeds has caused much heartburn among stakeholders.
Instead of dispensing quick and efficient service, the online registration has slowed down the process, inconveniencing people and causing much discomfort particularly among the advocate fraternity.
Soon after the process of online registration of sale deeds was enforced from January 1 this year, people were made to wait for days together for an appointment at various sub-registrars in the State.
Sources said unlike before, appointments were delayed and at times took eight days or even more.
“Every government decision and policy must be in the interest of the public. With the new online registration, people are facing a lot of hardships. What was earlier done in two or three days is now taking 10 days or more,” said Adv Satish Rao, slamming the new system.
He further said the staff and the sub-registrars appear to be untrained and not familiar with the software for online registration.
“The government should have trained the staff, taken trials and then implemented it after a period of three months or so,” Rao opined.
Sources informed that complaints have started pouring form various parts of the State about the slowdown and tedious procedure of the registration process.
“It would have been good if the government had taken the advocates and other stakeholders into confidence before launching the online process,” said Jerry Santamaria, secretary of North Goa District Advocates’ Association.
With grievances pouring in from various places, the association has called for a joint meeting with all presidents of Advocates Forums from North Goa on January 9 to discuss the matter and chalk out a plan of action.
