Only 10 in fray in Mencurem

With one candidate already being declared elected unopposed, only 10 candidates are left in the fray in four wards at the five-member Mencurem panchayat.

And that’s not all. Except for former sarpanch Nalita Naik, the remaining nine candidates are new faces contesting the panchayat polls.

Gajanan Chari has been elected unopposed from Ward 2 and elections will be held in Wards 1, 3, 4 and 5.

Former sarpanch Nalita Naik (Ward 3) is the only panch from the previous term who is contesting elections this time and she will be contesting against Ashwita Parwar and Sanjana Naik.

Ward 1 will witness a straight fight between Kamal Shetye and Vishakha Naik, while Ward 4 will have a triangular fight between Dnyneshwar Parab, Gurudas Parab and Sachin Parab.

Ward 5 will also feature a straight fight between Mohan Naik and Suresh Naik.
