Only 12 turn up as escort issues mar Mungul case proceedings

About 12 of the 28 accused persons charged in the Mungul gang war case appeared before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Margao on Thursday and collected their copies of the chargesheet.

The remaining accused persons, including the three accused who are presently out on bail, are expected to appear before the Margao CJM on November 25.

If sources in the know are to be believed, only 12 accused persons were produced before the court due to some escort issues.

The CJM Shubada Dalvi has ordered that the remaining accused in custody are produced before the court on November 25. She also told the police to serve the summons on the three accused persons who are on bail, to appear before the court on November 25 for appearance and to collect their chargesheet copies.

The chargesheet filed by the Fatorda police in the Mungul gang war case has stated that the accused persons had hatched a “pre-arranged plan” to assault one Walter Fernandes in the wee hours of August 12 last.

In the 624-page chargesheet filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Margao, the police has said that in furtherance to the prearranged plan to assault Walter, the accused  formed an unlawful assembly and armed themselves with deadly weapons viz. filled soda bottles, iron rods, hammers, choppers, swords, knives, axe and a firearm.
