Taunting the opposition over the ZP results, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday said BJP’s sweeping victory at the ZP polls had proved that opposition is a paper tiger.
He said the opposition must not indulge in misguiding people and should, instead, take up real issues and start using social media in a responsible manner.
Godinho was speaking to reporters at a function to felicitate Sancoale ZP Member Anita Thorat who had been elected unopposed.
“It is a happy moment for us that despite so many issues raised on linear projects and propaganda by the opposition on social media, BJP won full swing and the polls proved that the opposition is only a paper tiger.”
“The BJP has carried out huge development and reached out to the people during Covid times by offering various schemes. People know it and have shown the opposition their place.”
“The government is taking steps for game-changing development, be it the IIT, power transmission line, double-tracking, but the opposition was busy spreading rumours on social media and misguiding people that these projects would finish Goa.”
Godinho said the elections were fought on party lines and if there was anger among people, it would have led to an anti-government wave and BJP would not have won.
“But the people have given their verdict by showing that they know that the State government is working for them,” said Godinho.
“I request the opposition to take up real issues concerning Goa and Goans and we are ready to make changes if we go wrong, but misguiding people won’t help them.”
“I hope the opposition will be constructive after this bitter lesson and not misuse social media to malign the image of others,” Godinho added.
