While Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and senior BJP leaders distributed forms under the Mhaje Ghar Yojana across villages, the event in Nachinola took an unusual turn when Congress MLA Carlos Ferreira used the platform to criticise the government’s new law on house regularisation.

The scheme aims to provide rightful home ownership, and the Chief Minister distributed forms in the presence of Union Minister Shripad Naik, former MLA Glenn Ticlo and local leaders.

Ferreira, who attended despite the event being organised by the ruling BJP, said he supported helping people whose houses face legal issues but argued that the law “does not offer true relief.”

He objected to the use of numbered forms, warning they could be misused to track applicants and encourage corruption. He urged that the forms be made freely downloadable online.

The MLA also raised concerns about “discrimination against small farmers,” saying that the law only benefits wealthy landowners while leaving small farmers out. He called for a one-time exception for them.

Ferreira cautioned citizens against agents demanding money for form processing, echoing a warning made by the CM in Bicholim. He further drew attention to poor local infrastructure, including the Aldona-Corjuem bridge and Aldona market.

BICHOLIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has cautioned people against agents collecting money to process forms for the Mhaje Ghar Yojana, urging applicants to approach officials directly.

Speaking in Bicholim, he warned that strict action would be taken against those illegally building houses on government land, adding that such cases have already been found in several areas, including Bicholim.
