PANAJI: The Bombay High Court at Goa has asked the State government agencies to respond with a statement to the precise amount of dues owed by Percept Limited, the organisers of the Sunburn Electronic Dance Music (EDM) festival.
Social activist Trajano D’Mello, whose earlier petition before the High Court had elicited an assurance from the State government before the High Court that they will not grant any permission to ‘Percept Limited’ to organise EDM festivals in Goa until the dues are cleared, has now filed a petition before the High Court apprehending that Sunburn will be held in Goa and the state exchequer will once again be cheated.
The court while issuing notice to the state government as well as to Percept, directed the state government to offer a statement on the amount of dues Percept owes the state government as on date.
The State government has given its ‘in-principle’ nod for ‘Sunburn Klassique’ scheduled to be held later this month in Goa at Vagator with the event being billed as a homecoming for Sunburn which first started in Goa more than ten years ago but ultimately shifted out as dues and opposition mounted to the hosting of the festival.
While disposing an earlier petition the state government advocate general made a statement back in 2016 that permission to hold the music festival in the State of Goa will not be considered until they clear the amount demanded or at least furnishes a bank guarantee.
The following year the High Court disposed the petition after the Advocate General reiterated the statement that no application of the for permission or licence will be considered in the State of Goa in the year 2017, unless the due amount demanded is paid or furnishes a bank guarantee.
