MAPUSA: In a late-night crackdown on the narcotics trade in Goa’s tourism belt, Calangute Police seized over one kilogram of ganja and arrested a 25-year-old man during a raid at Porbawaddo, opposite Palmareinha Resort, on February 4.
Acting on specific intelligence about a drug delivery to prospective customers, a police team from Calangute Police Station conducted a raid and caught the accused, MD Subhan, in illegal possession of ganja weighing 1.094 kg, valued at approximately Rs 1.09 lakh.
The accused, a native of Supaul district in Bihar, was allegedly waiting to distribute the contraband in the busy Calangute area, a zone that continues to remain under police radar for drug-related activity, particularly during the tourist season.
The operation was led by PSI Vishwajit Dhavalikar, along with police constables Yogesh Bordekar, Suraj Fondekar, Siddhant Lamgaonkar and Gourang Surelkar.
An offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, has been registered.
