Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed Bicholim taluka on Monday, resulting in several incidents of fallen trees and branches across the region. The adverse weather caused damage at multiple locations and kept the Fire and Emergency Services engaged in rescue and clearance operations throughout the day.

A woman sustained injuries after a tree branch fell on her while she was riding a two-wheeler on the main road near the Housing Colony in Sanquelim. Fortunately, a major tragedy was averted. The injured woman was shifted for medical treatment.

Under the guidance of Fire Officer Rahul Desai, personnel of the Bicholim Fire and Emergency Services remained actively involved in relief operations. Teams removed fallen trees and branches from roads at several locations, restoring traffic movement and ensuring public safety.

More than 16 incidents of fallen trees and branches were reported across the taluka from Monday morning until late at night. The affected areas included Surla, Dignem, Pali, Sanquelim, Kudchire, Amona, Kudne, Latambarcem, Nanoda and several other villages.

The Emergency Control Room is compiling reports of the damage, while revenue officials are conducting spot inspections and preparing panchanamas (official damage assessment reports) of the affected sites.
