Over 73 p.c. vote in 15 p’yat wards, counting today

Of these 7801 voters, 3703 were male and 4098 were female. rThe highest turnout of 94 per cent was witnessed in ward no. 1 of Curca-Bambolim-Telaulim panchayat while the lowest turnout of 62 per cent was recorded in ward no. 8 of Penha de Franca panchayat. rThe counting for all wards of 11 panchayats will take place across nine locations in six talukas from 8 am on Sunday where the fate of over 300 candidates in the fray will be decided. rThese 11 panchayats include Adwalpal (5 wards) in Bicholim taluka, Penha de Franca (11 wards) Anjuna-Caisua (11 wards) and Bastora (7 wards) in Bardez taluka, Curca-Bambolim-Telaulim (11 wards) in Tiswadi taluka, Betki-Candola (9 wards) in Ponda taluka, Nuvem (11 wards), Chandor-Cavorim (6 wards) and Betalbatim (6 wards) in Salcete taluka and Sancoale (11 wards) which are in the Mormugao rtaluka. rIn the meantime, Sunday has been declared as a ‘dry day’ in all 11 panchayats across the state, whose counting of votes were not announced pending the voting in 15 wards spread across these panchayats. rOf the 16 reserved wards, which were embroiled in a legal battle over reservation and delimitation, the panch member in one ward, Ward no. 3 of Betalbatim panchayat has already been elected unopposed.
