Over 89 p.c. students pass higher secondary exams

Mapusa has highest pass percentage @ 95.3%, Sanquelim lowest with 78.3%

Thousands of youngsters who had been waiting with bated breath, could on Tuesday breathe a sigh of relief, as the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) declared the results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination held between February 28 and March 27 across 17 centres in the State.   

In a press conference addressed at the Directorate of Education, chairman of the GBSHSE Ramkrishna Samant announced that of the 16,959 students who appeared for the exam, 15,187, or 89.59% of the students were successful. 4331 candidates appeared in the Arts stream, of which 3683 cleared, 5341 students appeared in the Commerce field of which 4806 cleared, 5264 appeared in the Science stream of which 4706 cleared, and 2940 students appeared in the Vocational stream of which 2442 were successful.   

In 2018, 18,499 candidates had attempted the exam, and the pass percentage was 85.84%. This year, 114 students (or 0.75%) cleared the HSSCE with the help of sports merit marks, and a total of 3093 availed of the sports merit marks.   

Of the total 17,876 candidates who answered the exam, 9,308 were girls, and 8,568 were boys. While the Mapusa center had the highest pass percentage at 95.3%, Sanquelim had the lowest with 78.3%.   

This year, the highest marks scored in 12 of the 24 subjects that students appeared in, was the maximum marks -- 100. Subjects in which cent per cent marks were scored are Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accountancy, Mathematics (Arts and Science), Mathematics and Statistics, 


May 9 last day for re-evaluation 
PANAJI: Chairman of the GBSHSE  Ramkrishna Samant on Tuesday said that students who had got their HSSCE  results could apply for re-evaluation in the month of May.   
The last date to apply for a verified photocopy of answer  books in May 6, while the last date to apply for re-evaluation of answer  books, and verification in absentia is May 9.   
Those who are still unsuccessful can appear for the  re-examination to be held on June 7 (theory) and June 17 (practical).  The examination centres will be located in the North at the PVS Kushe  Higher Secondary School, in Assagao, and in the South at Carmel Higher  Secondary School, Nuvem.  
Samant informed that students with the remark “Needs  Improvement” on their marksheets are eligible for the June 2019  examination. Students who desire to improve marks may answer June 2019  examination under the “Improvement of Marks” scheme. They will be  permitted two chances for improvement of marks under the improvement  scheme.
