Owners of Baina structures get GCZMA notices

VASCO
The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) issued notices to owners of 52 structures through the Mamlatdar’s office, inviting them for a personal hearing before the authority over a pending demolition order on Thursday afternoon.

The notice directed all persons concerned to be present in the office or depute their authorised representative with all approved documents, approved site plans or other related documents in support of their case/structure on the schedule date, failing which the authority shall proceed ex parte in the matter. The authority said that no adjournments would be granted.

Speaking to media, President of Vasco Fish Market Carridade Pereira said the State government should not target people during the Covid pandemic.

"Such notices are regularly issued to us after a gap of few months and we don't know when this will stop. While on the one side, authorities are troubling us, on the other side we are faced with a bad fishing season and bad business at Vasco fish market. We are unsure what the government has in mind by calling us for a personal hearing," added Pereira.

"My husband is 75 years and was born in this house. His father and grandfather also lived here and now at this age, where should we shift with our family? The government must realise that these are not new structures and belong to traditional fishermen who are true Goans and in this fishing business for several decades,” said Pereira.
