Rich tributes were paid to Pai Tiatrist Agostinho Fernandes on his 74th death anniversary at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Sunday.
Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan Damu Naik and tiatr lovers gathered at the cultural institution on Sunday morning and offered their tributes to the father of Tiatr.
Speakers remembered the immense contribution made by Pai Tiatirst for the development of the Tiatr during his lifetime. “Agostinho was called Pai Tiatrist for his rich contribution and bringing about a revolution and reform in the tiatr. It’s today 74 years ago that Pai Tiatrist had left for his heavenly abode. On December 14, we will be observing his 150th birth anniversary,” Damu said.
He pointed out that Pai Tiatrist had staged around 25-30 tiatrs in his lifetime. “We pay respect to this great personality. His great contribution is an inspiration for the entire tiatr fraternity to move forward with this popular form of art,” he added.
Saying that Tiatr has contributed a lot to bring about socio-political awareness in the society over the years, Damu said one should not forget the contribution made by tiatr to protect and promote the Konkani language.
Noted Konkani artist and member Ravindra Bhavan, Conny Da Silva, also paid his respects to Pai Tiatirist. He thanked Damu for the gesture to pay tributes to the great tiatr personality on his 74th death anniversary.
Ravindra Bhavan Member Secretary, Sandhya Kamat and others also paid their homage to Pat Tiatrist on the occasion.
