Aimed at protecting the interests of traditional fishermen across the state, Fisheries Minister Vinoda Paliencar has ordered an immediate crackdown on LED fishing.
He has instructed the officials of Fisheries Department to form squads to monitor the fishing jetties across the State and confiscate the equipment used in LED
fishing.

across the country.
"I have given directives to the Department to form squads and visit every jetty for implementation of the ban. They have also been directed to confiscate all the materials being used in LED fishing.
"These squads have to submit a detailed report to me every week," said Paliencar.
Further stating that the state government is committed towards protecting the interest of traditional fishermen, he informed that fuel subsidy of over Rs 1 crore has been released to traditional fishermen.
"In all 118 applications of 11 fishing societies/associations have been considered and fuel subsidy to the tune of Rs 1.03 crore has been released," he said.
The associations/societies include Goenche Ramponkarancho Ekvott, Dona Paula Fishermen Association, Odxel Fishermen Association, Shree Shantadurga Fishermen Association, Traditional Fishermen Association, Ovleshwar Fishermen Association, All Goa Fishermen Association, Baga Sant Khuris Fishermen Association, among others.
