Stating that Palolem is an international tourism destination, residents demanded proper facilities and infrastructure development for the tourists and residents.
A memorandum signed by over hundreds of Palolem residents in this regard was submitted to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant during his last visit to lay the foundation stone for a Krishi-Bhavan by Palolem Coastal Responsible Citizens.
The memorandum listed out the lack of infrastructures and tourism facilities needed for visitors and residents alike for the world-renowned Palolem beach.
The residents also called for immediate repair and hot-mixing of the main Palolem street and internal roads, which are in a bad shape, replacement of old electricity alignment including electricity poles to enable uninterrupted power supply, provisions for parking space for vehicles between 300-500 considering future needs, developing a mini-fish market, Canoe-Stationing, net mending shades, and an ice-factory for the fishing community.
The memorandum also called for measures to eradicate unemployment of educated youth by facilitating better infrastructure for their entry into tourism trade and helping boost the tourism industry.
BJYM Canacona president Sanju Pagui, Palolem residents Amrut Pagi, Vishnu Pagi, Aakash Komarpant, Saurav Gaitonde, Guno Pagi, Nikhil Pagi, Dikar Pagi were some of the signatories to the memorandum and who were also present to hand over the memorandum to the CM soon after the Krishi-Bhavan foundation stone laying function at Chaudi in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Babu Kavlekar, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and Canacona former MLA Vijay Pai Khot.
