Palyekar entered the office at about 3.45 pm when two staff members were with their heads on the table, while the other two were resting their heads on the chairs.
Speaking to The Goan, Palyekar said the staff members were so fast asleep that they were not even aware he had entered the office.
“I woke them up and warned them that if they are found sleeping during office hours again, strict action will be taken.”
“I also checked the muster roll and found that Junior Engineer Shailesh Phaldessai had not reported to duty for the last 15 days. I was told by the staff he is on field duty. I checked the movement register, but there was no mention of the same,” said Palyekar. “Similarly, junior engineer Vasant Madkaikar, LDC Martino Fernandes and work assistant Harsha Kambli were also found absent without taking prior permission from their superiors. I then directed WRD Executive Engineer Pramod Badami to issue a notice to the four absentees,” he said.
“Accordingly, Badami issued memorandum to the four absentees in the evening directing them to file their replies by March 24 in regard to their unauthorized absence. I noticed a lot of indiscipline in
the office.”
