PANAJI

Some public spaces in Panaji got an intriguing set of street furniture ” benches crafted entirely from recycled plastic ” giving the capital’s ‘smart city’ makeover a green push.

The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) said 11 such benches were installed at the refurbished National Theatre“Café Bhosle square and are a “vital component” of the comprehensive plan to transform TB Cunha Road into a dynamic, safe and aesthetically appealing heritage corridor.

IPSCDL said the benches were installed in partnership with OneEarth Foundation and will provide a seating amenity to the public.

The newly installed benches, known as Solid Plain Benches, are designed to seat three persons and measure 5 feet in length, 3 feet in depth and 3 feet in height, with a sitting height of 17 inches.

Each bench weighs approximately 52 kilograms and is supported by a robust base made of mild steel (MS) pipe and anchored with four fastening holes for secure installation.

A bench is composed of 41 kilograms of recycled plastic derived from single-use items like plastic bags and packaging films.
