Panaji won the Energy Conservation Award for the initiatives under the Smart City Mission, including the transition to e-buses for intra-city transport, the setting up of the biomethanation plant and EV charging stations, and the city’s smart street lighting.
The Municipality Energy Conservation Initiative Award was received by Goa’s Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar and representatives of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) and the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) at the ongoing Energy Conservation Week 2024 celebrations in the city.
IPSCDL said in a statement that the award is a recognition of the effective execution of energy conservation initiatives alongside the implementation of Panaji’s smart city plans.
The e-bus intra-city transport service was launched three months ago and has been gradually gaining popularity in the capital city, with residents using the service on seven routes, including some for travel to and from the city’s suburban areas like St Cruz and Bambolim.
