Panch blames faulty GMC system for mother's death

PERNEM: An Arambol panch complained about a faulty system at the GMC hospital, after his mother died from Covid on Wednesday."The oxygen provided to patients at the GMC Covid ward is faulty and besides, there are insufficient beds. My mother was placed on a stretcher the entire night as there were no beds. Only when one patient from the ward died the next day, was she placed on a proper bed,” claimed the panch.Speaking to reporters, the panch said his mother had diabetes and was admitted to a private hospital in Mapusa four days back.“She was later shifted to Asilo where they found Covid-related symptoms in her and she was then sent to the GMC hospital Bambolim.”"At the GMC, doctors said she was suffering from pneumonia and she was shifted to Covid Ward 147. To make matters worse, the oxygen provided to her had some leakage.”“The situation in that Covid ward is horrible and there are no proper facilities for Covid patients. I request the government to inspect condition in these wards and provide better facilities, so that others won't die like my mother," said the panch.He also questioned the need for exorbitant charges levied on PPE at the GMC."When I went to see my mother after her demise, the watch guard told me to wear a PPE kit which cost Rs 2,000 and a mask priced at Rs 120. The common man can't afford to buy PPE kits and masks at such exorbitant rates,” the panch added.
