Jose Santarita (Babush) Coelho, the former Goa Football Association executive committee member and chairman of its referees panel, was laid to rest at Rosary Church cemetery, Navelim on Thursday evening.
Coelho was admitted to the Goa Medical College after he tested positive for Covid-19 and breathed his last on Tuesday.
He was one of the active members of GFA and was elected from Salcete zone. Coelho was the president of Navelim Sporting Club and chairman of Navelim Villagers Union, besides being a member of the Village Panchayat of Navelim.
The funeral was attended by GFA president and Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao, Avertano Furtado, former Fisheries minister, Edwin Cipru Cardozo, Navelim Zilla Panchayat member, Anthony Pango, vice-president of GFA South Goa, Anthony Leo Fernandes, sarpanch of VP Colva, GFA Executive members John Silva and Cosme Olveira, Valanka Alemao, CEO of Churchill Brothers, Schubert Furtado, former vice-president of GFA, Remmy Fernandes, ex-sarpanch of VP Benaulim, Franky Fernandes, head of referees sub-committee and office bearers of Navelim village clubs.
