The Chinchinim village panchayat has finally issued license for the construction of a panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose complex near the cemetery, nearly eight years after the panchayat had acquired the land in 2011.
Confirming the issuance of license by the panchayat secretary, Deputy Sarpanch Valentino Barretto told The Goan that the panchayat has issued the license for the panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose complex on the acquired land.
He said the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) will execute the project as was decided initially by the panchayat after preparing fresh estimates. “The panchayat will approach the government to earmark funds and start the construction work at the earliest,” he added.
While the panchayat had initially acquired the land in question to build a panchayat ghar-cum-market complex, the project was shot down subsequently by the villagers, who instead proposed a panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose complex on the acquired land.
For five long years, the project was in limbo with no consensus amongst the villagers over the nature of project that should come up on the acquired land. It was only last year that the panchayat body adopted a resolution in favour of the panchayat ghar-cum-multipurpose complex after the gram
sabha strongly voted in favour of the project.
