The Bio-diversity management committee headed by Jose Rodrigues as its Chairperson, with Royla Fernandes, Glyda Fernandes, Nanda Vagrumenkar, Remedios N Fernandes, Roque Fernandes as members, besides Dinesh Gaonkar as secretary, has said the panel will document the plan, animal and natural resources of the village and also protect and preserve them.
Jose told The Goan that Benaulim has one of the most beautiful beaches where the white waves rush to embrace the pale golden sand, adding “our beaches have been the reason why thousands of tourists from across the world come to enjoy its natural scenery and peace”.
Saying that the government should support the traditional fishermen with appropriate schemes for the welfare of the ramponkar community, Jose said all facilities should be provided to the traditional fishermen for their welfare when fish is the staple food
of Goans.
“Paddy fields all over the village have been the primary source of staple food. We have to find ways to preserve these areas and save this occupation from loosing its importance. Ponds and sluice gates have to be repaired and maintained. So also, water is a precious resource”, he said, while calling for revival of this traditional and important form of water harvesting.
