Spouses of political heavyweights, including former Minister and NCP leader, Mickky Pacheco and former Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa were amongst a host of women candidates, amongst whom were outgoing sarpanchas from Salcete, filed their nomination papers for the ensuing panchayat polls.
Mickky Pacheco’s wife Viola Pacheco has decided to throw her hat in the panchayat election from their home village of Betalbatim. Viola told the media after filing her papers that she is contesting the election with the support of the people and not because her husband was a former Minister and MLA. Incidentally, Mickky made his presence felt outside the office of the Returning Officer in the South Goa district Collectorate when Viola came to file her papers.
Ex-MLA Wilfred D’Sa’s wife Freda also filed her papers for the ensuing polls from Nuvem. A three-time former panchayat member and deputy sarpanch, Freda outlined the development work done by her husband in Nuvem village as a whole and her plans to usher in the infrastructure and human development.
A host of outgoing sarpanchas from Salcete, including Sandra Fernandes (Carmona), Vencila Fernandes and her husband David Fernandes (Benaulim), former Colva sarpanchas Suzie Fernandes and Anthony alias Mama Fernandes, Savio Gomes (Raia) also filed their nomination papers on Thursday.
