The State-level celebration of Panchayati Raj Day will be held at the Kala Academy on Wednesday, with a strong focus on introducing solar power systems for village panchayats across Goa. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will attend the function as the chief guest.
Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said the government is working towards promoting sustainable energy solutions at the grassroots level.
Director of Panchayats Mahadev Arondekar was also present at the news briefing, along with other officials from the department.
Godinho announced that Dabolim and Tivim have been selected as pilot locations for the implementation of solar systems in panchayats. The initiative is expected to reduce electricity costs and encourage the use of renewable energy in rural areas.
The minister said the celebration will also recognise the work of grassroots representatives, with awards to be presented to best-performing panchayats for their contribution to local governance and development. Panchayat members who have represented their wards for more than five terms will also be honoured during the function.
The programme will include sessions on key government initiatives, including Swachh Bharat Mission, focusing on cleanliness, sanitation, and community participation at the village level.
Godinho said the event will bring together elected representatives from across the State, providing a platform to discuss ongoing schemes and future plans for strengthening panchayat governance.
Godinho addded that the celebration aims to highlight the role of panchayats in rural development and encourage greater adoption of sustainable and community-driven initiatives across Goa.
