VASCO
Markets and superstores in Vasco witnessed a huge rush of customers on Thursday, hours before a four-day lockdown was to be enforced in the State.
A large number of people were seen buying groceries and stocking up on vegetables and fruits to manage during the lockdown. People were also seen flocking to fish and chicken markets to buy their meats and fish.
Some customers also complained about a rise in the price of commodities as the rush increased and while some customers alleged that lockdown had prompted vendors to take advantage of the situation and hike the prices, the vendors have denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, rumours were being spread on social media that the 4-day lockdown period would eventually be extended till May 15.
Though there was a rush in the markets, people seemed to be taking adequate precautions and wearing masks and also maintaining some distance at many stores.
While there was a considerable rise of people visiting markets on Wednesday, the rush increased on Thursday and was at its peak by evening.
