Agitating Para teachers being detained by police at Azad Maidan, Panaji on Thursday.
PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday said the government has done the best it could for para teachers and an official letter detailing the sops will be sent to them even as the police in Panaji picked up the agitating para teachers and detained them from Azad Maidan.
"We have raised their salary to Rs 25,000 and the work period is extended from 10 months to 12 months," Sawant said speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Assembly session.
He said, there are between 400-500 para teachers, lecture-basis teachers and part-time teachers serving in schools of Goa and a common 'contract teachers' nomenclature will henceforth be used for them.
"Salaries have been raised to Rs 25,000 with annual increment. We will give them priority wherever possible,” Sawant added.
Meanwhile in Panaji, para-teachers who were protesting at the Azad Maidan demanding regularization of their services were detained by the police after they announced that they would march to the Goa legislative assembly.
They have been agitating at the Azad Maidan for the last several days claiming that they had been assured preference in filling up vacant posts in regular employment but were not being considered when recruitment in permanent posts was being carried out.
