Parents of students at the Government school in Dhavashire-Usgao have threatened to move the children from the private premises to the old school building which is under renovation.
About 200-odd students from Std 5 to 10 were moved to a private residential building during the current academic year to undertake renovation work, which began in April 2016.
The parents were reportedly assured that the renovation work would be completed soon, but they have now accused the GSIDC of going slow with the renovation work.
Sanjay Shetye, a member of the Parents Teachers Association, told The Goan that they have decided to move the students on Thursday.
“We are forced to devise a way to resolve this problem. Our children are facing problems by sitting in rooms of these residential flats,” he said.
When contacted, Director of Education Gajanan Bhat said all efforts are being made to complete the work. “I am aware that the work is going on at slow pace. I have asked the GSIDC to expedite the renovation work,” Bhat said.
When asked if he would appeal to parents not to forcibly move the students to the building under renovation, Bhat replied: “Parents should take a prudent decision after taking into consideration that work is still going in progress.”
“I am sure that by the next academic year, students will be able to occupy the fully renovated school building,” he said.
A source feared that the situation could become worse if children are forcibly moved to the building under renovation.
“Workers will not be in a position to complete the remaining work if students occupy the premises and this will only lead to a further delay in the project,” said the source.
