Parallel to the National Youth Congress launching its campaign called the “National Register of Unemployed” (NRU), the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress too launched the campaign in Goa on Tuesday.
The NRU is a parody of the government’s controversial National Register for Citizens (NRC). The Congress intends on keeping a register of all the unemployed in the country, and hand over the data to the government based on the number of missed calls from unemployed people it receives on the number +91 815199441.
“We want to start a National Register of Unemployed (NRU) so that the government knows how many people are unemployed. It’s a nationwide campaign launched by Indian Youth Congress where we will be collecting the data and handing it over to the government,” said Youth Congress president Varad Mardolkar at the party headquarters.
No policy finalised
Mardolkar pointed out that the youth of the nation just want jobs, and had the government for that, and not the NRC or the NPR. He slammed the State government for not offering the youth a single finalised policy in the state.
“None of the policies are finalised in the State : Not the Youth Policy, not the Employment Policy, not the IT Policy, not the Tourism Policy, yet the government is thinking of implementing the NPR-NRC,” Mardolkar said.
All policies the government needs to put in place to ensure employment for youth are being ignored. There are no jobs in the private sector, and youth have to migrate, he added. The government can’t find solutions to existing problems, so have introduced the CAA-NRC-NPR even though the youth is not interested in this, he insisted.
Pointing fingers at former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, Mardolkar said that Parrikar had promised that 50,000 jobs would be created. Sawant was supposed to take it forward. Where has this plan reached? he demanded.
