MARGAO

On the eve of the anti-CAA rally called by the Council for Social Justice and peace along with Confederation of Human rights Organizations and the Concerned Citizens of Goa at Fatorda on Thursday evening, the Goa police yesterday told the organisers to ensure that children do not participate in the rally and the speakers do not make inflammatory speeches.

A delegation of the rally organizers, including Rajan Solomon and others were invited by Margao Sub-divisional Police Officer, DySP Serafino Dias in his office at the police headquarters Margao on Wednesday for an interaction ahead of the meeting. Fatorda police station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak was also present during the deliberations.

DySP Serafino Dias is believed to have impressed upon the organizers to ensure that children do not take part in the rally as it would be in violation of the provisions of the Goa Children’s Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. The police stand assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the fact that a complaint had been lodged at the Panjim police station with regard to the presence of children at the Lohia Maidan public meeting held last week.

While seeking to know the list of the speakers, who will address the meeting on Thursday, the police told the organizers to take care and ensure that inflammatory speeches are not made during the rally.

The rally is expected to start from outside the Nehru stadium near the Joggers park, before the participants walk down the distance on the footpath from the stadium to the Ravindra Bhavan circle and then to the old market, where the rally will culminate in a public meeting at the open space near the St Francis Xavier Chapel.

This is the second anti-CAA rally that has been organied by the church-backed Council for Social Justice and Peace along with the Confederation of Human Rights Organisations and Concerned Citizens of Goa in the Margao police sub-division. Lohia Maidan, Margao had played host to the anti-CAA rally last week.

Meanwhile, the Goa police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of the rally on January 30 at Fatorda as a precautionary measure. The police had mobilized a huge force for security bandobast on the day of the anti-CAA rally at the Lohia Maidan, Margao last week.
