The crowning of Melon King and Queen of Parra was the spotlight at the annual Melon Summer Fete 2019 recently organised by parishioners of St Anne’s Church, Parra.
Andrea Lopes and Mathais Pacheco were crowned as the Melon Queen and King respectively at the event.
The event was inaugurated in a unique way by Fr Urbano Menezes, Chief Guest for the function by cutting open ‘Porrichem Kaling’, a popular fruit in the village of Parra.
The festivity continued for two days, with various competitions were held; such as Goan seafood curry, wealth out of waste and children’s fancy dress competition, vindaloo competition and junior salad making.
Many participated and were awarded cash prizes and certificates too.
Fr Christopher Fernandes, a newly ordained priest and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo were the Chief Guest for the second day. Andrea Lopes and Dr Lloyd Souza were the hosts for the two-day function. Well known band ‘Valentinos’ entertained the crowd while parishioners staged performances of Portuguese dance, dekhni dance, Bollywood dance and a Goan fusion dance.
There were a variety of food and games stalls, housie and exciting spot prizes which added more fun and flavour to the event.
