Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar refused to respond to the comments of Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Nitin Gadkari hinting that BJP would bring a leader from the Centre to be Chief Minister. All that Parrikar said was “We will cross the bridge when it comes.”

“We will cross the bridge when it comes. What Nitin Gadkari said is correct that the MLAs will choose the chief minister after elections. We will cross the bridge when it comes,” Parrikar said.

Parrikar was speaking after emerging from the office of the Returning Officer of Panaji assembly constituency with his protege Siddharth Kuncalienkar who filed his nomination as BJP candidate for the Panaji seat.

Parrikar also refused to comment on Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate challenging him on his own turf, saying: “you should ask him (Monserrate), why he has quit Taleigao and come here."

Also filing their nominations in Panaji was BJP’s Taleigao candidate Dattaprasad Naik who promised development and employment to the people of the constituency as well as relief from water, road and sewerage woes.

BJP candidate for Cumbharjua, Pandurang Madkaikar filed his nomination barely five minutes before the office was to close barging in with a gang of supporters even though per election commission mandates that only four people accompany the candidate for filing nomination. Other supporters have to wait 100 metres away.
