Parrikar assures truckers of resolving ore transportion rates

PONDA
Reprimanding the mining truck operators for having approached the media with their grievances, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday, however, assured to resolve their issue of ore transportation rates before October 20.
On learning that Parrikar would visit Sanjeevani Sakhar Karkhana at Dharbandora, members of the Dharbandora Taluka Trucks Association (DTTA) gathered in large numbers to place before him their pending demand for a hike in transportation rates.
When DTTA President Vinayak alias Balaji Gauns placed the demand before him, Parrikar shot back: "Why did you first go to the media? Going to the media is a major problem. It's creating problems and so, I lacked interest in your case."
Incidentally, a DTTA member was recording the event on his mobile phone when Parrikar angrily directed him to ‘stop' the recording and to delete the video. "Why are you recording it? Have you taken permission before recording it? There is media here, you don't need to do it," he rebuked the DTTA member.
Despite his outburst, Parrikar assured to resolve their issue before October 20.
"We can meet on October 11 and decide on the transportation rate. I will decide on the rate and will direct mining companies to follow it," he said.
Sanvordem MLA Deepak Pawaskar was also present when the DTTA members placed their demands. Pawaskar had earlier assured the truckers that their demands would be fulfilled by the government.
It may be recalled that the DTTA had earlier demanded an increase in transportation rate to Rs 14-15 per tonne per km for fresh and auctioned ore and a reduced rate for diesel at Rs 52.
At present, the truckers get Rs 14 per tonne per km for auctioned ore and the diesel rate is Rs 58.85. They have been also assured Rs 10.39 for fresh ore per tonne per km and a same diesel rate.
